A 21-year-old woman has pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing the deaths of a mother and daughter.
Geraldine and Louise Clancy drowned when their car plunged into a flooded ditch during a Christmas shopping trip on December 22 last year.
The accident happened just a kilometre from the Clancy family farm.
Susan Gleeson of Leitrim, Kilworth, Co Cork, appeared before the cityâs Circuit Criminal Court yesterday.
Louise, who was a talented writer and blogger, had returned home from the University of Sussex where she was on an Erasmus Exchange Programme from UCC.
At the pairâs funeral Ms Clancyâs son Declan described his mum as a âbrilliant mam and wife, we were a very happy familyâ.
Defence counsel, Jim OâMahony applied for an adjournment of the case, adding he was seeking a report from a psychiatrist.
Mr OâMahony said that Ms Gleeson hoped to have the matter finalised as quickly as possible as âthe facts of this case are so sad for everybody involved, the circumstances so unfortunate”.
Judge Sean O Donnabhain denied his request, and suggested Mr OâMahony obtain a report from a GP in relation to Ms Gleeson.
The case was adjourned for sentencing until November 21.
