The HSE have said that the recent flu epidemic that has gripped the country is all but over after recent figures showed that the number of reported cases is rapidly declining.
The statement by the health authority comes after the fatal strain of Influenza A (H3N2) claimed 36 lives this winter.
Although the strain currently is in circulation the health authority believes that the epidemic is almost over as the virus is not being frequently transmitted from person to person.
However the HSE have appealed to those who have not received the flu vaccine to get vaccinated in any case as an extra precaution.
The HSE also say it is possible a second strain of influenza, influenza B will circulate later this year, but it will not be as fatal.
