One person shot dead with a shotgun blast to the face, a homeless man hospitalized after a savage beating, and a taxi driver robbed of his takings at gunpoint. This is the final tally of last night’s Dublin crime spree.

Today, Gardai have arrested a 31-year-old man in connection to these incidents. He is currently being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at Mountjoy Garda Station.

A man in his 40s was gunned down near the Killarney Court block of flats, near Portland Row, at quarter to midnight.

Earlier in the evening, a taxi driver had been robbed at gunpoint, mere yards away from where the gun victim would later meet his end.

And about 6am this morning, a homeless man was severely beaten up and robbed of his spare change as he slept on Mabbot Lane, just off Talbot Street.

Gardai are trying to piece together whether or not there is a link to all these incidents. They happened around the same area of Dublin north inner city, over an 11-hour time period.
