Not wasting time – controversial Poolbeg incinerator plant to begin operations this weekend after accepting its first batch of waste today

Thee waste burning will officially get underway at the highly controversial Poolbeg incinerator plant over the weekend after the plant accepted its first batch of un-recyclable waste today.

Although it won’t be fully operational until September the plant which has faced a number of objections over the past year will officially fire up this coming weekend with waste from four Dublin authorities expected to be pilled up over the coming week ahead.

Speaking about its long awaited opening the Managingr of Covanta Ireland John Daly confirmed that the plant did in fact receive it’s first batch of domestic waste this morning.

Mr Daly told Morning Ireland the plant will be responsible for disposing “black bag waste” he also said the incineration process won’t start for a few days.

The opening of the plant which was originally proposed back in 1997 will come as blow to nearby local residents who have submitted a number petitions over recent years to stop the plants construction due to environmental and health fears.
