Two kayakers, a man and a woman, were rescued by helicopter this morning, after spending the night on a river island in the Black Valley.
The pair were kayaking in a river near Gearhameen when they lost their paddles and became stranded at around 7:30pm last night. Valentia Coastguard were contacted, but were unable to deploy a helicopter due to adverse weather conditions. Instead, Killarney Lake Rescue provided a tent and some supplies to the pair, who were forced to spend the night on the small river island.
The Shannon Search and Rescue chopper was finally able to rescue them early this morning.
It is understood the pair were found safe and well.
