There was some sad news announced today as Ajax FC have confirmed that midfielder Abdelhak Nouri has suffered “serious and permanent brain damage” after he collapsed during a friendly match on Saturday.
The Dutch side who have a long standing history for producing talented players over the years, published a statement on their website confirming that the 20-year-old experienced “cardiac arrhythmias” (heart rhythm problems) during their pre-season game against German Bundesliga side Werder Bremen.
The Everidsie side went onto say that Nouri’s chances of recovery from the damage is slim to none.
The statement reads as follows: “The diagnosis was made that a lot of [his] brain is not functioning. All this probably occurred due to a lack of oxygen supply.”
“We received information from doctors which stated that Abdelhak’s heart is functioning normally, and his brain scans did not detect any anomalies”.
“However the latest round of tests have revealed the serious extent of the damage he has suffered.”
The Amsterdam native was immediately flown by helicopter to hospital in Austria, during the game which was later abandoned.
