Met Eireann claims Ireland will get very heavy rain and strong wind throughout Friday and Saturday with western areas expected to bare the brunt of the storm.
Although not as strong as Ophelia, Storm Brian will still see powerful winds of 130km warranting two separate weather warnings to be issued from the national weather service.
An orange wind warning has been placed on counties Galway, Mayo, Wexford, Clare, Cork, Kerry and Waterford with winds expected to reach 130kph.
Meanwhile the rest of the country are expected to receive less severe winds although they could still potentially reach 110kph.
Motorists are advised to make extra time for their journeys as traffic jams have been reported throughout the country today already.
