The Taoiseach Enda Kenny has seemingly ruled out increasing rent supplement to help struggling families avoid homelessness.
Mr Kenny believes that increasing the supplement would only lead to landlords further increasing the cost of renting a home.
Mr Kenny made his comments following Questions in the Dáil this afternoon, the questions have come following the death of a homeless man on nearby Molesworth Street yesterday.
However the Taoiseach, strongly believes that there is no quick fix to tackling the issue.
He told the Dáil : “A blanket raising of the rent supplement doesn’t solve the problem,” he said. “It will fro some people, but for others, it just moves them up into the next category – of [being] likely to become homeless themselves.”
