The Yellow weather warning issued by Met Eireann yesterday remains in effect this morning, and will expire at 10am on Monday morning.
Temperatures fell to below freezing in most of the country last night, and widespread frost is making driving and walking conditions hazardous this morning.
But even lower temperatures are expected tonight. Minimums of minus six degrees will likely be reached after dark this evening, with widespread frost and ice formation.
Dense fog banks are also expected, making for treacherous driving conditions across the country’s road network. The fog will probably linger long after dawn tomorrow morning.
Though Monday night will also be very cold, with temperatures sinking below the zero barrier, a southerly air flow will bring slightly milder weather on Tuesday.
The new year is expected to start with rain.
