Storm Rachel slowly moved inland throughout the day today, causing disruption to flights, ferries, and road traffic.
Rachel also knocked out power to thousands of households and businesses, but its overall effect has not been as bad as initially thought.
Two ‘Status Orange’ wind warning remain in effect for 18 counties, however, with wind gusts of up to 130km per hour expected in some places. Wind and rain warnings are also in place for a number of other counties.
Stormy conditions are expected to ease over the next 24 hours, and cold and icy spells will dominate the coming weekend.
