In a day of penalty shootouts at the FIFA World Cup, Croatia came out on top this evening as they beat Denmark 3-2 on penalties.
Following Russia heroics over Spain today, Croatia came through a penalty shootout of their own to dump Denmark out of the World Cup and setup a quarter final encounter with Russia.
In a game that was far from exciting, Croatia had to come from behind after they went behind in the first minute when Jorgensen turned a shot home from a long throw in.
Denmark who were buoyant from their early lead were quickly pegged back when Mandzukic struck on the fourth minute to level the scores.
The match which lived up to be spectacular within in the first ten minutes was anything but as the remaining 80 minutes seen both sides effectively cancel each other out.
Although Denmark dominated the play in Extra time, Croatia could have stolen the victory at the death but Kasper Schmeichel saved from a Luka Modric penalty after Rebic was hauled down whilst one on one with Schmeichel.
The game drew out to a close with both teams level and Rakitic slotted home the winning penalty after Denmark missed three of their five penalties.
