A pipe bomb has been discovered at a home in a estate in north Cork. Homes in the Killala Gardens area of Knocknaheeny have been evacuated while authorities deal with the bomb.
Gardái and the army’s bomb disposal unit were called to the scene, which remains sealed off. If the device is indeed a viable bomb, it will have to be safely destroyed before residents can return to their homes.
There is not indication yet of who might be responsible for planting the pipe bomb or what their motive might be. Even if the device is not viable, causing a bomb scare is a serious offence.
