A driverless Luas system is not feasible nor possible with current technology according to Transport Infrastructure Ireland

The possibility of having a fully operational driverless Luas system in Dublin is not feasible nor possible with current technology, Transport Infrastructure Ireland has revealed.

The response about such system being introduced comes after Dublin City Council’s Transport Committee, asked about implementing the system in the wake of the recent Luas strikes. However TII has revealed says that this is only possible with a segregated rail track, which would travel underground.

It was initially hoped that such a system similar to those used in other European countries, including France and Denmark, could be brought here.
