South African prosecutors will have their appeal hearing against Pistorius’ sentence on December 9.
Judge Thokozile Masipa handed down a five-year jail term last month, for the ‘culpable homicide’ of Reeva Steenkamp. Under local law, Pistorius could serve just 10 months of this sentence
The National Prosecuting Authority in South Africa deemed the sentence ‘shockingly low’. Representatives from this organization believe that ‘there exists reasonable prospects for a successful appeal.’
Pistorius is currently serving his sentence in the hospital wing of Kgosi Mampuru prison in Pretoria.
