Details have emerged today of a new version of Android malware that has hacked over one million users’ Google accounts and is infecting an estimated 13,500 devices per day since its emergence.
The malware, called Gooligan, steals email addresses and authentication tokens stored on Android devices. With the stolen information, hackers can access a users’ Gmail, photos, music, contacts, apps docs and even WhatsApp text messages.
The malware takes effect when a user downloads and installs a Gooligan-infected app on a vulnerable Android device, or by clicking on malicious links in phishing attack messages.
An infected phone will drastically drag and will conceivably stop working to any extent with apps closing, not even opening and stalling periodically.
If you feel your account has been hacked or even if is hacked, the only way to clean it is to a full reinstallation of your Android operating system and your device will be cleared of all malware.
