The Department for Integration said over 80 asylum seekers will be moved from tents in Co Clare over the next 24 hours.
It follows criticism of the men’s accommodation conditions, particularly given the sub-zero temperatures of recent nights.
It is understood that some of them will move to new premises later today, with the rest expected to move to alternative accommodation tomorrow.
A total of 13 tents are located on the site of the Knockalisheen Direct Provision Center near Meelick. Each can accommodate up to eight people.
Meanwhile, the Department says those who were in the tents are no longer staying overnight and have been moved to the recreation areas in Knocklisheen town center as an emergency measure.
The ministry says it is providing shelter for an unprecedented number of applicants for international protection.
There are currently 17,648 people in state-provided housing and 46,060 Ukrainians on temporary protection.
It reiterated the lack of available housing, particularly for those seeking international protection.
The housing shortage prompted the Department for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth to use “all available forms of accommodation over the past months” according to a statement, reports RTE.
