As Irish first time home buyers are left “renting forever”, Green Party meets with County council managers to buy houses for thousands of existing and new asylum seekers

During an an online briefing on the Government’s White Paper to end Direct Provision by 2024, Green Party Minister Roderic O’Gorman announced he is planning to meet with all city and county council managers to “locate housing” which his department “aims to start buying and repurposing this year”, reports RTE.

Asylum seekers who arrive into Ireland will have full access to free healthcare, housing, education, and employment supports from day one as part of the Green Party’s International Protection Support Service under the current programme for government / coalition terms.

Worldwide, asylum seekers are not classed as “refugees”, however in recent months, there has been an Irish media and Irish government campaign to amalgamate asylum seekers with genuine refugees from countries like Syria. Asylum seekers arrive into Ireland unannounced and unplanned. They then claim asylum and are then immediately offered free healthcare, housing, education, and employment supports from day one. Within 4 months, to is planned they will be offered “own door accommodation”
