29-year-old Spanish man Victor Barrio met his death in the ring in the city of Teruel, when an ill-timed gust of wind undid his cape. The bull, named Lorenzo, weighing 529kg, first tossed his opponent into the air and then gored him when he fell onto the sandy surface. The animal’s horn pierced the man’s lung.
The matador’s aides spooked Lorenzo away and managed to carry Victor into the infirmary, where he was sadly pronounced dead shortly afterwards.
Victor Barrio is the first bullfighter to die during the faena in the ring in the last 30 years.
His wife, who was watching the event, was led away in shock.
