Belfast Council votes to hold off from flying a flag at half mast from City Hall to mark Prince Andrew’s birthday

Prince Andrew’s woes are continuing with the news that Belfast city councillors don’t want the Union flag flying from City Hall to mark the Prince’s birthday.

According to RTE, the SDLP, Sinn Fein and Alliance Councillors supported a motion to stop the flying of the flag to note the Royal’s birthday.  The DUP Councillors voted it down, insisting that the Council should wait and see what happens in the civil sexual assault case that is currently underway in the US.  Prince Andrew strongly denies any wrongdoing.

Sinn Fein released a statement, saying that marking the Prince’s birthday “would be totally inappropriate”.

The news comes in the wake of an announcement that Prince Andrew will no longer use the title “His Royal Highness” (HRH) and has had his honorary military roles by the Queen.
