Man and woman arrested at airport for possession of €740,000 worth of cocaine in a suitcase and shampoo bottles

It has been reported that a man and woman have been remanded in custody after they were found to be in possession of a case full of cocaine worth €740,000.

According to RTE, Jefferson Pedrucci, 32, and Pamela Da Silva, 28, were arrested in Dublin Airport on Thursday evening after their suitcases were x-rayed and found to hold €600,000 worth of cocaine together with two shampoo bottles that held €140,000 worth of cocaine in liquid form.

The pair appeared before Judge Dermot Simms and were charged with unlawfully having cocaine for sale or supply after importing it.  Ms. Da Silva also received a charge for carrying false immigration documents.

She was granted legal aid and was assisted at the Court by an interpreter while no application was made for bail.

Gardai objected to bail for Mr. Pedrucci on the grounds that he was a flight risk and could face up to 14 years in jail.  He was said to have allegedly been caught red-handed with the cocaine and, while he made no reply to the charges, he did insist that the shampoo bottles were for a friend who is a hairdresser.
