President of the United States Joe Biden is hoping that a televised interview later today would help his beleaguered re-election campaign, but a rerun of his dismal debate performance might spell disaster for him, reports RTE.

The 81-year-old Joe Biden has not been able to calm fears among his Democratic Party in the week following his debate with Donald Trump, which was their first face-to-face meeting of the 2024 election season.

Last Thursday for ninety minutes, a raspy Mr. Biden found it difficult to speak coherently, tripping over his sentences and becoming disoriented.

Since then, a rising number of his party’s members have urged him to demonstrate that he has the stamina to unseat Mr. Trump in November and serve another four years as president, reports RTE.

Democratic governors, who met with him on Wednesday in an emergency meeting, have endorsed him; nonetheless, a number of prominent newspaper editorial boards, political pundits, and at least three members of his party in Congress have demanded that he resign.

Even while the president has declared that he is “not leaving” and is “in this race to the end,” surveys taken after the debate indicate that Mr. Trump’s slim lead is growing, reports RTE.

Since the debate, Mr. Biden has also not yet made any speeches in public without using a teleprompter, save for a few quick ones.

This implies that Mr. Biden’s planned interview with ABC host George Stephanopoulos, which is scheduled to be taped while on a campaign swing in Wisconsin, will be crucial in helping to allay concerns, reports RTE.
