Budget 2025: Chambers confirms early budget date amid October General Election speculation

It has been announced by Finance Minister Jack Chambers that an early budget would be held. He did, however, clarify that an early general election is not the reason for the decision to move on with budget 2025, reports The Mirror.

It was anticipated that Tuesday, October 8, would be the day of Budget 2025.

The budget will take place on Tuesday, October 1, according to Minister Chambers, who confirmed this while speaking on RTÉ’s Morning Ireland. Minister Chambers replaced Michael McGrath as finance minister last week, reports The Mirror.

“Absolutely not,” Mr Chambers responded when asked whether the budget was being rushed forward to make it easier to call an election in the autumn.

“We have to submit our fiscal and budgetary submission to the European Commission on October 15 and the week prior to that both myself and Minister (for Public Expenditure Paschal) Donohoe will be attending the Ecofin and the Eurogroup meeting. So October 1 is the natural date to have Budget 2025,” he said, reports The Mirror.
