Bird flu alert: Virus found in dead sea eagle in Tipperary




The avian influenza virus, subtype H5N6, was detected in the dead body of a sea eagle that was found in Tipperary late last month, it has been confirmed.

Government agencies have issued a statement to say that the risk to public health is ‘very low’.

Nevertheless, poultry farmers have been advised to remain vigilant and to maintain a physical separation between animals destined for the human food chain and wild birds.
