Boris Johnson says Russian President Vladimir Putin would not have invaded Ukraine if he had been a woman.
According to the BBC, the British Prime Minister called the ‘crazy, macho’ invasion a perfect example of toxic masculinity” and he called for “more women in positions of power”.
But Downing Street said there was “not a deliberate policy” to publicly discredit Putin.
Johnson’s comments come ahead of a NATO meeting where allies will discuss how to respond to future threats.
At the Madrid summit, he will urge other members of the defense alliance to increase defense spending.
UK defense spending is set to reach 2.3% of GDP this year, a key measure of a country’s annual income, on investment in the defense industry and £1.3bn in support military to Ukraine, the government said.
