Brazilian delivery man Caio Benicio rightly hailed as hero for hitting man who was attacking kids – but no such praise from media for Irish men who also helped

A Brazilian delivery driver has been rightly hailed as a hero for intervening on Thursday afternoon when he saw an Algerian migrant attack a woman and three small children outside a school in Parnell St, Dublin city centre.

The delivery driver told RTE how he saw the man stab the child in the chest. He ran over, took off his helmet and hit the man full force on the head, leaving the man on the ground.

Caio Benicio was indeed heroic in his actions, but so too were a number of Irish men who also intervened but have conveniently been forgotten about by Irish media. Perhaps it doesn’t suit their narrative, or perhaps in Caio Benicio was an Irish delivery driver rather than a legally documented immigrant, he wouldn’t be getting the same publicity.

Either way, the sway of media in Ireland is doing its best to focus on the aftermath of the attack itself rather than what actually started the protests, which turned into riots, in the first place.
