BREAKING: Former Prince Andrew released after police questioning

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor—formerly known as Prince Andrew, Duke of York—was released from police custody following his dramatic arrest earlier that day. The King’s younger brother was detained in the morning at his Sandringham Estate residence on suspicion of misconduct in public office, marking an unprecedented moment as the first senior British royal arrested in nearly four centuries.

The arrest stemmed from recent revelations in newly released U.S. Justice Department files related to Jeffrey Epstein. Authorities allege that during his tenure as UK trade envoy (2001–2011), Andrew shared confidential government information with the late convicted sex offender. He has consistently denied any wrongdoing.

Police searched properties in Norfolk and Berkshire before questioning him. After several hours in custody, Andrew was photographed leaving a police station in the evening, reclining in the back of a vehicle. No charges have been filed at this time, and he was released pending further investigation.

King Charles III issued a statement expressing “deepest concern” and emphasizing that “the law must take its course,” with support from Prince William and Catherine. The development intensifies scrutiny on the monarchy amid Andrew’s long fall from grace, including the 2025 stripping of his royal titles and eviction from Royal Lodge.

This episode underscores ongoing fallout from the Epstein scandal, shaking public confidence in royal institutions.
