Gardaí have confirmed that they are currently assisting police in the UK after a number of parcel bombs were intercepted at Heathrow, other London airports and Waterloo train station.
According to RTÉ News, is believed the Gardaí’s involvement comes after a number of the parcels had Irish postage stamps and an Irish return address.
Police investigating the incidents say the parcels contained devices that were capable of igniting a small fire once opened.
In a statement released by Scotland Yard, police said: “All parcels which were A4-sized white postal bags containef yellow Jiffy bags – have been assessed by specialist officers to be small improvised explosive devices.”
“The Met Police Counter Terrorism Command is treating the incidents as a linked series and is keeping an open mind regarding motives.”
They added no one was injured during the incidents.
