Gardai have released information pertaining to a major incident that occurred in Dundalk Institute of Technology this afternoon.
It’s understood that gardai were called shortly after midday after someone at the college thought they heard gun shots at a football pitch to the side of the campus with another person claiming to see a gun man on the pitch itself.
A number of garda vehicles rushed to the scene and combed the entire campus for what they believed to be a possible gunman on the loose.
Thankfully gardai say that they could not find any sightings of a gunman or recover any firearm on the campus but that they’re keeping an open mind as to what the “gun fire” sounds were.
