GardaĆ are investigating the discovery of the bodies of a woman and a baby at a house in Carrick-on-Suir, Co Tipperary.
The bodies were found around lunchtime today by a man who called to the house in a local estate. GardaĆ and emergency services were immediately alerted and are currently at the scene, which has been preserved for the arrival of the State Pathologist.
It is understood the woman is believed to be the mother of the infant, who appears to have been newly born.
Detectives are keeping an open mind and are pursuing all lines of inquiry. However, they are treating the incident as a personal tragedy at this stage and are handling it with sensitivity.
An incident room has been established and a family liaison officer will be appointed. GardaĆ are working to contact the womanās relatives and will also speak to neighbours and family members as part of their investigation.
