Police in the US have taken a man into custody after he tried to enter iconic St Patrick’s cathedral with two petrol cans and lighter fluid.
According to ABC7 News, police arrested the man after he tried to enter the building with the cans.
It is understood the man who has been described as being emotionally disturbed was stopped by ushers before he entered the building.
Reports say he was then taken into custody by officers from the New York Police Department.
It is not yet known what the man’s motives were, but it comes less than three days after Notre Dame Cathedral went on fire.
Police say there are no reported injuries and the man was taken into custody and is expected to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.
