BREAKING: Spain tragedy as young Irish woman dies after falling 500ft on Mountain in Malaga

Police in Spain have confirmed tonight that a young Irish woman has died after falling around 500 feet at a rock climbing area close to Malaga, Spain, reports The Mirror.

Around 7pm on Friday, rescue services retrieved the corpse of the victim, who is said to have been British and in her 20s.

According to reports, her male companion was in a condition of shock when he was rescued and managed to live by clinging to a rock covered with vegetation, reports The Mirror.

After following the incorrect path close to the settlement of El Chorro, the climbers reportedly lost their balance and crashed during the descent.

The Civil Guard has opened an inquiry, reports The Mirror.

This tragedy comes after another British climber perished in the same location last month.

When rescue personnel came, the man, who was in his 20s, had been rendered unconscious and had suffered from cardiac arrest. At the scene, he was subsequently declared dead, reports The Mirror.

Following the incident last month, a representative for the Guardia Civil in Malaga stated: “Members of the specialist Civil Guard Greim mountain rescue team based in Alora near Malaga, supported by a Civil Guard helicopter based in Granada, have rescued the body of a young British man. He had suffered a fall while he was crossing a via ferrata in the area known as Monkey Bridge near to El Chorro. When officers reached the man he had gone into cardiac arrest. Despite practicing CPR on him and evacuating him rapidly from the scene by helicopter to a nearby heliport where medical services were waiting, they were only able to confirm his death,” reports The Mirror.
