A British military helicopter was forced to buzz a Russian sub off Cork Harbor as the Irish ‘navy’ does not have any anti-submarine warfare capabilities.
The episode, which reportedly happened some months ago, serves to highlight the fact that Ireland appears to offer a wide-open back door into Europe’s western flank through which hostile forces can flow through unimpeded. This renders Ireland a serious weak point from a military defence standpoint.
Without anti-submarine capabilities, Russian raiders can position themselves right outside any port facilities along the Irish coast unnoticed and launch a missile barrage that would obliterate the country in a matter of seconds with zero warning before sailing on along undefended waters.
