Can Rocky still pack a punch? Stallone to play Rocky Balboa for seventh round!

At the hefty age of 67, Sylvester Stallone is stepping back into the shoes of one of his most iconic characters as Rocky Balboa, the underdog who battled his way through six films and is returning for ‘Creed’, which will be released this November.

In the new film, the former World Heavyweight Champion Rocky Balboa, serves as a trainer and mentor to Adonis Creed, the son of his late friend and former rival Apollo Creed, who was played by Carl Weathers.

Michael B Jordan (28), who is also expected to hit the big time in the upcoming remake of The Fantastic Four this year, is playing the part of Adonis Creed which will see him learn from the legendary Rocky himself.

Stallone has been gushing online about the movie and is full of praise for Michael B Jordan.

“In Creed Michael B Jordan plays Apollo’s son and boxer who meets with Rocky. An amazing relationship,” he stated on Twitter more recently.

Many had thought that Stallone would be stepping into the ring himself but it seems that he is staying firmly behind the ropes to allow the young up and coming actor have the limelight. Could this be the start of a new franchise? Stallone is in need of a big hit and this might just be the movie to do that.

The veteran actor has been most recently seen in The Expendables movie franchise, which saw him teaming up with aging action stars such as Arnold Schwarzenegger (who himself has returned to The Terminator franchise), Jean Claude Van Damme and even Chuck Norris. Also starring in them is Dolph Lundgren who is best known for having played the memorable Ivan Drago in Rocky IV, who (spoiler alert) was responsible for the death of Apollo Creed. Fans hoping to see Dolph Lundgren returning as Ivan Drago seem to be in for a disappointment however. It does not seem that he will be joining his Expendables co-star this time around.

Whatever happens, it is sure that the movie will pack a hefty punch, with a lot of interest about the project. The big question is if Creed can get out of the shadow of Rocky and have us hooked in its own right. If the film is a knockout then we might have Creed II coming along in the near future. Will it be minus Rocky? We shall have to wait and see.
