Common sense prevails as face masks no longer required for tourists sunbathing and swimming in Spain

It’s not often we get to write a headline declaring that common sense has prevailed, but today, we can treat this as a win for the realists.

The Spanish government and health authorities have finally come to their senses after massive public outrage and rowed back on their absurd health rules banning tourist sunbathers and swimmers without facemasks from their beaches.

However, all beach visitors will still ave to wear masks on theie way to and from the beach and beach facilities.

José Luis Zoreda, vice-president of Exceltur, an organisation that represents Spain’s tourism industry, told newspaper El País at the time: “We’re going through hell with thousands of jobs and businesses threatened and now they want to turn the beaches into open-air field hospitals” reports the Metro.

Holidaymakers also apparently complained sunbathing with a mask would leave them with ‘two-tone faces’.
