A 42-year-old father of two working for the Irish aid agency Concern, named locally as Dauda Konneh, died overnight in Liberia. He had been suffering from a long-term illness but his condition had rapidly deteriorated over the last 10 days. He had presented himself to his local Emergency Ebola Testing Unit last Friday, but was reportedly turned away due to over demand on the service. It is believed he succumbed to the Ebola virus.
Concern have issued their condolences to the man’s family.
This comes in the wake of a stark report by the World Health Organization (WHO) forecasting that, if efforts to fight the deadly epidemic are not substantially stepped up, the number of Ebola victims could run into the hundreds of thousands by the new year.
