Concerns raised about providing PPS numbers to Irish Water

Seems like the doomed nature of the semi-state quango is never far away from a fresh controversy.

Now, staff at the Department of Social Protection have expressed concerns about Irish Water obtaining and storing people’s PPS numbers, which the company claims needs to ‘provide people with their allowances.’

Doubts have also been cast about the legality of such request.

On top of that, serious concerns have been discussed in relation to the matter of Irish Water becoming a private entity in the future, and still holding people’s PPS numbers.

These communications have been brought to light by Fianna Fail TD Willie O’Dea, who himself has refused to provide Irish Water with such confidential information.

Opposition to the water charges has grown exponentially over the last few weeks. Mass demonstrations and other events natiowide are planned for the near future.
