A missing mother and father with their newborn have been found and arrested, police say, although the baby remains missing.
Sussex Police said Constance Marten and Mark Gordon were seen in Brighton by a member of the public just before 9.30pm on Monday, reports Sky.
They were arrested on child neglect charges and are in police custody.
However, their child is still missing and an urgent search operation is underway in the area, police said.
Detective Superintendent Lewis Basford told Sky News: “We are currently looking into all available areas that the baby could be in the open land,” reports Sky.
DSI Basford said no further information was obtained on the child’s whereabouts by questioning the couple while they remain in custody.
“I have always remained hopeful that the child is alive, and the investigation we have led is all about the safe recovery and location of the baby,” he added, reports Sky.
Sky correspondent Sabah Choudhry reported that there were between 10 and 15 officers looking for the Roedale Valley posts in Brighton.
Police ask members of the public to be “vigilant” in open areas and any outbuildings they may have on their property.
In the days following the couple’s disappearance, DSI Basford said the child was “at the heart of the investigation” and that concerns were growing “day by day” for the child’s well-being, reports Sky.
Ms Marten, who comes from a wealthy family, has lived an isolated life with Mr Gordon since they met in 2016.
