Coronavirus: Leo Varadkar fears Intensive Care Units will reach capacity soon as Covid-19 spreads

Intensive Care units in Irish hospitals will reach likely reach capacity within days the government has warned as the Covid-19 virus continues to spread.

In a surprisingly flippant statement, the Taoiseach said that it would be “surprising” to see fewer than 1,000 people dying from the Covid-19 virus by the end of the crisis.

While the Taoiseach acknowledged the unprecedented efforts of health service personnel, he also expressed his concern at the rate of admissions to Intensive Care units around the country.

The Taoiseach also took the opportunity to send his regards to UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson who, it was announced on Friday morning, had tested positive for the Covid-19 virus.
