Ireland is heading for 10,000 coronavirus cases a day by Christmas unless radical changes are introduced, according to a leading expert.
Professor Gerry Killeen says that Ireland is seeing around 1,000 new cases a week right now, and urgent action is needed to avoid the grim prospect of 10,000 cases a day in just a few weeks.
European health agencies have been urging Ireland to impose a full lockdown to avoid catastrophe, but the Government went ahead and reopen schools anyway, so Covid-19 will spread much faster now.
