A severe outbreak of coronavirus has been declared at the Midlands Prison.
It is understood that no fewer than five prisoners have tested positive for the virus.
All 777 inmates currently housed at the Portlaoise facility will now be tested.
The five confirmed cases will be kept in isolation for the next 14 days.
