Gardai are facing a crackdown as new rules will forbid them from driving through red lights, in bus lanes or exceeding speed limits when pursuing criminals.
They will also no longer be allowed to use the blue light while their cars are moving.
The new rules will apply even if the way ahead is clear and any officers found flouting the regulations will be subject to the same fines and penalties as other drivers.
