According to Sky News, 31-year-old Tom Rodwell “ruined” his victims’ lives.  Sentencing him, Judge Paul Watson said that Rodwell had become “addicted” to the sense of power that he had over women, telling him:

You are a callous, unfeeling sexual predator whose only concern is for your own gratification,” the judge told the defendant.”

Rodwell had admitted to 10 offences of rape against the five victims.  The assaults were said to have taken place over a three year period from 2017 to 2020.

The rapist was able to convince women that he was a genuinely kind person so that they would trust him, giving him an opportunity to assault them.

Rodwell’s defence said that he couldn’t explain why he committed the vile acts but he told the Court that it “appears alcohol played a part.”

Rodwell must now serve at least 12 years before he becomes eligible for parole.  A restraining order has been placed on him, prohibiting him from contacting his victims.  He has also been placed on the sex offenders’ register for life.

Detective Constable Rick Sainsbury commended the victims for their bravery in coming out and helping to bring Rodwell to justice.
