Criminologist doubles-down and says “democracy is endangered” if gardai don’t remove Pride rainbow colours from patrol cars

Dublin criminologist and solicitor Malachy Steenson has doubled-down on his claim that gardai should never, ever participate in a political movement, which includes the Dublin Pride Parade.

He was speaking about the Gardai decorating their patrol cars using taxpayers’ money in rainbow colours to participate in Dublin’s Pride Parade.

Speaking on the Niall Boylan show on 4fm, Malachy Steenson emphatically backed-up his assertion and said that democracy itself was threatened if gardai don’t roll back on their participation in the Pride Parade.

The gardai announced on social media that they were looking forward to taking part in the parade at the end of June.

The Liberal has learned through a source in the gardai that up to 200 members are due to march in the parade for the first time when it takes place in the capital on June 28th.

But not everyone is happy about it. Malachy Steenson claims that the gardai should be completely impartial from all political debates, discussions and parades. He states that a Pride parade is indeed a political statement just like the water charges parade and other similar activities.

He claims that the gardai are indeed “no longer an impartial police force” as a result of decorating their patrol cars in the Pride rainbow colours.
