Criminologist Malachy Steenson says gardai and PSNI should NOT be taking part in tomorrow’s Dublin Pride Parade and Pride flag should NOT fly at the Dail

Well known media Commentator and criminologist Malachy Steenson spoke exclusively to The Liberal today emphasising how he feels the Gardai should remain completely impartial and have no participation  in uniform in the Dublin Pride Parade.

He said:
“The recent announcement that the RUC/PSNI have been requested by Garda Commissioner Drew Harris to march alongside the two hundred Garda he has ordered to march in Saturdays LGBTQ political march and rally in Dublin further bring the Garda into the political arena. This follows on from the decision by the Varadkar government to fly the so called Pride flag over Leinster House this weekend.”

Malachy Steenson again raised the issue of the politisation of the Garda. Steenson has been a lone voice on this and other issues and regularly articulates views which are held by a huge section of society outside of the liberal agenda.

He also pointed out that “the Pride flag is now being put on an equal footing with the tricolour, we have the sceptical of it flying over the National Parliament and iconic buildings like the GPO, likewise we have a State Company wrapping post boxes in rainbow colours”.

He further instanced the National Museum hosting a Pride party and concert in Collins Barracks as a further example of the agenda that is being pursued. The decision to bring members of the RUC/PSNI down to march clearly creates a security risk, and in the event of any incidents how can the Garda be seen to act impartially and implement the rule of law when they are marching along side them.

He also wondered that in relation to members of non mainstream republican groupings who regularly take part in this march, would they now march with the RUC /PSNI who regularly harass their members in the North of Ireland.

It is clear that this rally is a political event designed to bring about social and political change in this Country, and therefore The Gardai should not be taking party, he restated that “their participation is a threat to the democratic nature of this State and to the policing by consent model they operate under”.
He pointed out that on the 6th July a Rally for Life march will take place in Dublin organised by anti abortion groups and has been attended by ten’s of thousands of people in the past number of years, he asked “will the Garda be marching in it or will the State fly a protect life flag over Leinster House?”

If these do’t they are clearly exposing their bias and showing that “equality” is not for all.
