Derek Chauvin, the former police officer accused of killing George Floyd, is facing a new murder charge.
Chauvin, who already faces charges of second-degree murder and manslaughter, has now been handed down a third-degree murder charge.
The new charge is likely to increase the chances of Chauvin receiving a murder conviction and a lengthy prison sentence.
The killing of George Floyd in May 2020 sparked a summer of unrest across the United States and elsewhere.
The trial is scheduled to begin on Monday.
