Donald Trump plans to bring an end to J1 visas if elected

Trump

US Republican Candidate Donald Trump has vowed to scrap the J1 visa programme if he makes it into The White House. The businessman published a policy paper on immigration on his site today.

Trump described the J1 visa programme as one for foreign youths and outlined how he would like to replace it with a jobs programme for US youths in inner cities. He said the scheme will be “terminated and replaced with a resume bank for inner city youth provided to all corporate subscribers”.

The scheme offers the chance to work in America for up to four months from May to September and has been used by Irish students for the last 50 years. Last year around 8,000 youths took advantage of the J1 visa.

Trump is currently leading the polls in the race to be the Republican Party nominee for the 2016 presidential election.
