The Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly has said that the new mandatory quarantine Bill is fair and proportionate.
Speaking in the Dail, Donnelly said the Bill which will see travellers from 20 countries mandatory quarantine was a fair and proportionate balance.
Donnelly”s comments came after he revealed that a total of 10,500 passed through Dublin Airport last week after arriving in the country.
The Health Minister also said that there was still between 1,000 to 3,500 people arriving at the Airport each day and that’s why the Government have decided to act now.
However his comments were met with stern criticism in the Dail as many opposition TD’s labelled the Government’s plan as a half measure.
They also accused the Government of consistently issuing mixed messaging and the issue of travel in and out of the country was one of its biggest failings.
