There was great news announced recently as a 13-year old Dublin student was officially confirmed as the winner of ‘EU Digital Girl of the Year’ award for 2015.

The winner Niamh Scanlon a student at Dominican College in Griffith Avenue, claimed the prestigious award after impressing judges with her new app CoderDojo, which was designed to help young people learn coding. An overwhelmed Niamh who has been learning computer coding since the age of nine, spoke of delight of winning the award saying, she believes the new App clearly impressed the judges.

Niamh went onto say she couldn’t be happier explaining: “People started hearing about CoderDojo and young people learning how to code, and they saw that was really interesting.” “So I made an app called Recharge My eCar, and it won a few Eircom Junior Spider awards, and a Coolest Project Award, and people were just really interested in kids and young people learning how to code.”
