Ebola: Mortality rate jumps to 70pc

The World Health Organization (WHO) has issued a warning stating that the Ebola death rate has increased from around 50-60% to 70%.

This statement comes shortly after a 56-year-man working for the United Nations died from Ebola in Germany two days ago. The man was being treated in a Leipzig hospital, but succumbed to the disease.

There are also growing concerns for the rest of the medical team that treated Thomas Eric Duncan in Texas Health Presbyterian hospital. One of the nurses, 26-year-old Nina Pham, became infected via unknown means while treating Duncan. Other members of the team are now being monitored for any signs of infection.

If the current infection rate continues, the WHO have said that there could be as many as 10,000 Ebola cases per week within two months.
