Eir claims that it could have provided National Broadband for €1bn instead of €3bn that Varadkar gave the go ahead to

Last month the Government decided that their preferred bidder for the full delivery of the National Broadband Plan had been awarded to a consortium led by US businessman David McCourt.

It’s understood that the value of the contract is just under €3bn.

Its main aim is to connect another 540,000 people to a state of the art broadband service that should see them have at least if not better internet services as people living in and around Dublin.

However, Eir have announced that they could have delivered the National Broadband Plan for €1bn instead of the €3bn that Varadkar gave the go ahead on.
